Remembering Ian Tanner
Look around you in Scots Church. In past days plaques made of metal, wood or even marble were placed on church walls to commemorate members who had made a significant contribution to the church community. We have many of them, an interesting collection. It is many years since a plaque commemorating a former minister was erected in Scots Church, but after the death of the Rev Ian Tanner the Church Council decided to add one last bronze plaque to our walls.
We remember Ian as Minister of this Congregation, a loving pastor, fine preacher and teacher, capable administrator and a good friend. He was valued also as a leader in the wider Presbyterian and then Uniting Churches – Lay Education Director, Moderator, President and in so many other roles.
The new plaque, suitably inscribed, was placed on the east wall, to be dedicated by the Moderator of the Uniting Church in SA, Dr Deidre Palmer, during the service of worship on Sunday 24th May. Mrs Joan Tanner was invited to be present but sent an apology. She was unable to travel from her home in Canberra where she is recovering from recent surgery.
Members of the Congregation and Friends are invited to contribute to the cost of the plaque as a personal gift in memory of Ian. For this purpose envelopes are available in the church or gifts can be forwarded to the church office. Rev Norah Norris
Dr. Peter Hetzel, Rev Dr Peter Trudinger, and Moderator Dr Diedre Palmer at the dedication of the plaque.
